Meet the Coaches

Trey Porras

Trey Porras

Head Coach

Trey Porras was named head baseball coach at Wharton County Junior College on August 23, 2019, after spending the previous season as the assistant coach.

In his time as a Pioneer, Porras has helped guide the program to new heights. Under his leadership the Pioneers are the only Region XIV team to make the post season every year since 2019, have set the school single season win record, and he has helped over 90 student athletes continue their athletic careers at the next level.

During his tenure the Pioneers have appeared in the Regional Championship Game three times (2022,2023,2025).

Before joining WCJC, Coach Porras served as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico, where he oversaw the hitters and outfielders. Prior to his time in Albuquerque, he served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Porras is a WCJC Baseball alum. As a Pioneer student athlete, he earned first-team all-conference honors. Additionally, he was named the 2010 Johnnie Frankie Award recipient for most outstanding student-athlete. After WCJC, Porras continued his academic and athletic career at the University of New Mexico, where he was the First Baseman on the 2011 and 2012 Mountain West Conference Championship teams, receiving all-conference honors in 2012. Porras helped the Lobos compete in the 2011 Arizona State and 2012 UCLA regionals.

Porras is married to his wife, Jessi, and together they have two daughters, Norah and Caroline.
