BAY CITY – Wharton County Junior College employee Gloria Mahavier Crockett was recognized this month by the state of Texas for her service to the community.

During a recent Texas Navy Admiral’s meeting in Bay City, Crockett was commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas, an honorary appointment conferred by the Governor of Texas to Texas women for exceptional community service, particularly in the role of preserving the state's history.

As part of her commission, Crockett received a bouquet of Yellow Roses, a Texas Navy Admiral's coin and pin. She will also receive a framed certificate signed by the governor.

Crockett has participated in Texas history events for the past 15 years at schools and organizations in the Gulf Coast region. She has further taken an active role in The Sons of the Republic of Texas re-enactment parades, participated in events at the Alamo in San Antonio and assisted with Davy Crockett Descent Reunions in Tennessee and Texas.

A WCJC graduate, Crocket has worked for WCJC for more than four decades in various roles. She is currently the Bay City campus specialist.
