WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Band and Choir recently traveled to Branson, Mo. for performances in legendary theaters. During their four-day trip, students opened for several guest performers, including an Elvis impersonator and The Blues Brothers tribute band.

“The purpose of the trip was two-fold,” said WCJC Band Director Joe Waldrop. “One was to give the students the experience of performing on a professional stage setting and the other was to reward them for their hard work here at the college.”

A total of 18 band students and seven choir students participated in the trip. Waldrop directed the band while WCJC Choir Director Dr. Karl Paoletti directed the choir. Shows were held at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater, Presley’s Country Jubilee and the Clay Cooper Theatre.

“As many of our students want to be professional musicians, this trip was an invaluable opportunity for them to see that their dreams are obtainable through hard work and perseverance,” Paoletti said.
