WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College students may be eligible to waive a portion of their outstanding debt thanks to the new Pioneer Restart Debt Forgiveness Program.
Students owing $500 or less on their WCJC student account and who plan to register for the Spring 2021 semester can apply for the one-time waiver. The program is based on Spring 2021 enrollment and class attendance. The Fall 2020 term is not eligible for debt forgiveness.
“The Pioneer Restart Debt Forgiveness Program provides students a chance to start over and be successful,” said WCJC’s Dean of Financial and Business Services Gus Wessels. “There were many challenges faced by students in the past year and this program can help them on the path to a new career.”
A similar program was offered in the Fall of 2018, with 47 students receiving a total of $16,550 in waivers.
Students wishing to apply for the waiver can complete and submit an online application as found on the WCJC website under the Business Office tab. The deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 12, 2021. For more information, contact the Business Office at businessoffice@wcjc.edu or by phone at 979-532-6941.
