WHARTON, TEXAS – Due to COVID-19, Wharton County Junior College closed its campuses on March 12, 2020. The college will remain closed until further notice and is moving to an online platform to continue to offer courses during the coronavirus outbreak.
Instruction for all WCJC courses will resume online with first 8-week courses March 23-27 and 16-week courses on March 30. The spring semester is scheduled to end on May 14, 2020.
All WCJC campuses are currently closed to the public and will remain that way until further notice. Only essential personnel will continue to report to work and will coordinate with students via telephone and email. All college activities – including commencement, athletic events and awards banquets – have been cancelled.
“We want to thank our students and community for working with us during this challenging time,” said WCJC President Betty McCrohan. “Our highest goal, as always, is to provide a quality education at an affordable cost to our students, and we will continue to meet that goal in the midst of this current crisis.”
McCrohan credited college employees with enabling the college to go fully online.
“Our faculty, staff and administration have gone above and beyond to ensure Wharton County Junior College continues to provide instruction,” McCrohan said. “Their dedication and commitment to the college is remarkable.”
According to McCrohan, the college will move forward with plans to provide courses for the remainder of the year for the May mini-term, summer semester and fall semester. If needed, the college will adjust its operating plan to accommodate students with online instruction and online services.
