WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Jazz Band is calling all couch potatoes for its upcoming concert, “Name That Television Show.”
Scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus, the concert will feature well-known television theme songs – tunes that audience members will have a chance to try and identify. The show is open to the public and free of admission.
“I will pull men and women from the audience and let them write down what television shows they think correlate with which songs,” said WCJC Band Director Joe Waldrop. “The music will be different theme songs from various TV programs.”
Waldrop came up with the idea while preparing for the band’s performance earlier this month in Branson, Mo. Knowing that there would not be a lot of time available for learning new music, Waldrop chose well-known theme songs.
“I thought that it would be fun and that the songs would not take much time to get ready,” he said. “I was wrong on the time factor.”
Waldrop said many of the tunes actually proved to be quite complicated in arrangement. But he’s confident that the students have put in the required time and effort to make for a great performance.
And with the guessing game format, this concert will truly be one not to miss.
“This concert will be a fun way to determine which group contains the bigger couch potatoes – the men or the women,” Waldrop said.
