February 14, 2017 –Due to strong winds this morning, several Wharton County Junior College campuses experienced damages. No one was injured at any of the campuses. The Wharton campus received the most damage. A large tree was pulled up at its roots near the Johnson Building. The Reynolds Building received damage when bricks at the front building corners fell off and glass was shattered at the building frontage. The fence at the baseball practice field was damaged. Brooking Hall was left without electricity. The LaDieu Technology Center received damage when two class rooms received leaks and a building fence was also damaged. Two leaks were reported at the Bay City Campus in the mechanical technology area. The north side of the Richmond Campus was reported to have leaks around doors and windows.
Classes at all campuses are on schedule.
Students and employees who have not registered for the college’s emergency alert system, RAVE, are encouraged to do so. Messages regarding campus closings, delays, and emergencies are sent via the system only to students and employees registered in the RAVE system. The registered person is allowed to choose the methods that they prefer to receive notifications such as voicemail, text, and email, as well as for multiple devices. Registration is easy and can be completed at any time through the college’s website wcjc.edu, by accessing the link About Us, then Security, and then Emergency Alert Service.
