Police Academy
Wharton County Junior College operates a licensed police academy certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).  Successful completion of the required training allows students to take the state licensing examination to become a licensed peace officer in the State of Texas.

The police academy offers both day and evening classes.  Day classes are held at the Wharton campus, 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday, completing in one semester (17 weeks).  Evening classes are held at the Richmond campus, 6:00pm-10:00pm Monday through Friday, completing in two semesters (34 weeks).  Students must take all courses as a semester block.  A class average of 80% and a minimum grade of 80 on the exams are required to successfully complete the Basic Peace Officer Certificate course.  

Testing is NOT required for entrance into the program.     

     A Wharton day class is scheduled to begin January 9, 2017
     A Richmond evening class is scheduled to begin August 21, 2017
Apply early!  Student information/registration packets are prepared for each individual academy.  Packets will be distributed to each applicant upon receipt of application to the program.
