Dr. Marcus Sims II
WHARTON, TEXAS — The Wharton County Junior College Emergency Medical Services program has a new medical director. Dr. Marcus Sims II began serving in that role on Sept. 1 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to WCJC’s program.
“Our program has a growing enrollment, and our instructors are becoming more creative and innovative for student success each semester,” said WCJC EMS Program Director Karl Johnson. “Dr. Sims brings expertise, experience and commitment that will guide us to the excellence we seek.”
Sims is an experienced emergency medicine physician and EMS medical director with a strong commitment to advancing prehospital and emergency medical care. He currently serves with Integrative Emergency Services as the South Houston Regional Medical Director and as Site Medical Director for CHI St. Luke’s Health Brazosport and CHI St. Luke’s Health Sugar Land. His leadership extends to the prehospital environment through his role as a Senior EMS Medical Director with BEST EMS. In this capacity, he serves as Medical Director for Central EMS, Lake Jackson EMS, Stafford Fire Department and Portland Fire Department. He also oversees the development and implementation of policies for BEST EMS, helping ensure high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and EMS practice.
Sims earned his undergraduate degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he developed a strong foundation in the evaluation and management of critically ill and injured patients.
In addition to his clinical and EMS leadership responsibilities, Dr. Sims is actively involved in the advancement of emergency medicine at the state level. He serves as President-Elect and an ACEP Councilor for the Texas College of Emergency Physicians, contributing to the profession through advocacy, leadership, and collaboration.
