
The Wharton County Junior College Choir and members of the Wharton Community Choir rehearse for their upcoming concert, "American Tapestry: A Choral Journey." The concert is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Horton Foote Theatre on the Wharton campus.
WHARTON, TEXAS — The Wharton County Junior College Choir will celebrate the 250th anniversary of America during its upcoming concert, “American Tapestry: A Choral Journey.” The performance is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. It’s free of admission and open to the public.
The concert will feature patriotic classics, including “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Riverside,” “Shenandoah,” a modern arrangement of “Old Joe Clark,” and “You’ll be Back” from the popular musical Hamilton.
The concert kicks off with a choral arrangement of “The Pledge of Allegiance.” Two tributes to veterans — “American Heroes: A Salute to the Armed Forces” and “To Those Who Served” — are also planned.
The Wharton Community Choir as well as some music department alumni will join the WCJC Choir in the performance.
“This will be a rousing, patriotic concert that celebrates the red, white and blue,” said WCJC Choir Director Dr. Karl Paoletti.
Choir members include Alexis Alvarez of Bay City, Julie Burns of Needville, Spencer Cole of Needville, De’Maurion Leday of Bay City, Matthew Mirelez of Bay City, Gabrielle Tarlton of Victoria and Caden Wile of Needville. WCJC Music Department alumni performing at the concert include Riley Henderson of Wharton and Lindsey Reeves of Wharton.
