WHARTON, TEXAS — Wharton County Junior College is collaborating with the University of Houston to streamline the transfer process for graduates pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Through the UH Next program, students will be able to obtain an associate’s degree from WCJC followed by a bachelor’s degree from UH with no loss of course credit or wasted hours. UH Next is a 2+2 Transfer Program meaning that students will spend two years at WCJC followed by assured admission to UH for another two years.
The point is to better align courses and streamline the transfer process so students don’t waste time or money on their education.
“Nearly two-thirds of our students come to WCJC with the goal of transferring to complete their bachelor’s degree,” said WCJC President Dr. Amanda Allen. “The UH Next program makes that path seamless and affordable, ensuring our students can graduate on time and step into good-paying jobs that strengthen our communities.”
“Our goal is to increase college access, speed the time to bachelor’s degree completion and prepare more Texas students for the job market,” added Todd Romero, UH’s associate dean of undergraduate studies.
The program will launch in the spring of 2026 in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), UH’s largest college with more than 11,000 students and 40 plus degree programs encompassing Humanities and Creative Arts, Social Sciences, Business Professions and Allied Health. Five community colleges will participate in the UH Next program: WCJC, Alvin Community College, College of the Mainland, Houston City College and San Jacinto College.
