WHARTON, TEXAS — The Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizens Program will hold its annual 5K Stride and Stroll fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Riverfront Park in Wharton. Event organizers are hoping for a maximum turnout.

“The more participants we have, the more funds we can raise for the program,” said WCJC’s Director of the Senior Citizens Program Traci Myers. “All proceeds will benefit the WCJC Senior Citizens Program and the services it provides to seniors in our local community.”

The program provides various services to senior citizens in Wharton County, including meals, educational presentations, activities and transportation. The program also operates “Meals on Wheels” services to homebound seniors within the service area.

This year’s race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park’s Central Pavilion, 222 East Elm St. Fees are $40 for adults, $30 for children (12 years and under) and $150 for teams of up to five participants. Veterans receive a $5 discount. Registration will take place until the morning of the event. Forms are available at the WCJC Senior Citizens Center, located in Room 112 of the LaDieu Technology Center on the Wharton campus.
