RICHMOND, TEXAS — The Wharton County Junior College Choir’s upcoming concert will cover everything from Mozart to Michael Jackson.
Scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Horton Foote Theatre on the Wharton campus, “The Evolution of Music,” will feature masterworks from various eras and countries. Selections include an English madrigal, an 18th Century classic from Mozart, a jazz piece by Gershwin and an early rock and roll piece.
“This will be a unique concert,” said WCJC Choir Director Dr. Karl Paoletti. “I wanted to introduce my choral students and the audience to a wide variety of great choral literature from different historical time periods.”
Learning such a repertoire has required plenty of long hours on the part of both students and instructors.
“It has been challenging to rehearse and perform accurately choral music representing so many different time periods,” Paoletti said.
Paoletti will rely upon WCJC Instructor of Music Debra Lemson to provide piano accompaniment.
Student performers will include Alexis Alvarez of Bay City, Julie Burns of Needville, Spencer Cole of Needville, Vanesa Flores of Needville, De’Maurion Leday of Bay City, Matthew Mirelez of Bay City, Anahiyarith Rodriguez of El Campo, Gabrielle Tarlton of Victoria and Lawrence Welsh of El Campo.
