WHARTON, TEXAS – Close proximity to home and friendly instructors were the primary reasons El Campo native Savannah Prihoda chose Wharton County Junior College. Thanks to the college’s new Registration Incentive Program, the sophomore student can now add cost savings to the list.

Prihoda and nine other students were randomly selected earlier this year to receive free tuition and fees for the Spring 2025 semester. Students were automatically entered in the drawing by registering early. The award covers tuition and fees for all WCJC Spring 2025 courses, including 16-week, 14-week and first 8-week sessions.

Prihoda is currently majoring in business administration and plans to transfer to the University of Houston to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She said the Registration Incentive Program was a timely surprise.

“This incentive program will definitely be a great help to me this semester and I am so grateful to be one of the few students to receive free tuition,” she said.

Needville resident William Renteria was equally grateful to be one of the program’s recipients. Renteria is a paramedic who is pursuing his associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services at WCJC.

His goal is to one day become an EMS instructor.

“The money provided by WCJC is a great help to me because I work full time as a paramedic to pay for these classes,” he said. “With my tuition paid, it will ease the burden of costs to let me focus on studying for my classes.”
