WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Band will honor the nation’s soldiers at its upcoming concert. The “America’s Veterans” concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The public is invited and the show is free of admission.
“One of the purposes of this concert is to let our veterans know that we appreciate their service to this country,” said Band Director Joe Wadrop.
The concert will begin with a dedication ceremony for the nation’s Prisoners of War and for those soldiers still listed as Missing in Action. The show will feature a special performance by WCJC vocal student Elaina Light as well as narration by WCJC Instructor of Speech Jim Bob Conner.
Waldrop said it was surprisingly difficult to find music geared specifically toward veterans. Most patriotic songs were more appropriate for Fourth of July celebrations or for Memorial Day.
“I eventually found some that were more veteran specific,” he said. “We are really hoping that area veterans will attend this concert so we can honor them for the sacrifices they have made for our nation.”
