Wharton County Junior College recently hosted a special event at the Bay City Campus to recognize Matagorda County Judge Nate McDonald, who will retire at the end of the year. On hand for a dinner and presentation were WCJC Board of Trustees members, students, faculty, Matagorda County elected officials, and members of the general public. WCJC President Betty McCrohan provided a welcome and presented a plaque to McDonald, noting that “he’s just an outstanding individual and I’m going to really miss that daily interaction.” A recognition letter from U.S. Senator Ted Cruz was also read and presented to McDonald, who was accompanied by his wife, Sharyl. McDonald provided a brief address, noting that the county’s relationship with WCJC has been especially rewarding for area residents and students. He urged the students in the crowd to continue to “take full advantage of what WCJC has done for Matagorda County."
