WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College supported the Wharton Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation’s Car Seat Event by providing an event location, refreshments and volunteer support. WPD and TxDOT provided car seats and proper installation methods for area families.
Held recently at the Wharton campus, the event was well attended, with dozens of cars lining up to have their safety seats inspected by police and state technicians. In cases where seats were broken or expired or no longer appropriate for the child using it, new seats were provided free of charge.
During the Car Seat Event, a total of 41 car seats were inspected, with 34 new seats issued and installed. A similar event was held at WCJC in 2019, with 33 car seats checked and 22 new seats issued.
Student volunteers from the WCJC dorms and from the WCJC Pioneers Volleyball Team assisted with the event.
