Wharton County Junior College Board of Trustees members Ann Hundl of El Campo, center, and Amy Rod of El Campo, right, were officially sworn in for new terms by Wharton County Judge Phillip Spenrath at WCJC’s Wharton campus. An attorney with Paul Webb P.C., Rod was first appointed to Position 4 on the board in 2013 as a replacement for outgoing board member Phil Stephenson and then elected in 2014. She serves as the board’s chairman. Hundl, a financial advisor, was appointed to Position 3 on the board in February of 2014 and then elected in May of that same year. She serves as the board’s vice-chairman. These were the only two positions up for election in 2020. The board is comprised of nine elected representatives who serve six-year terms.
New Wharton County Junior College Board of Trustees member Dr. Sue Zanne Williamson Urbis was officially sworn in to begin her six-year term by Wharton County Judge Phillip Spenrath. Williamson Urbis was elected to Position 8 after defeating Edee Sinclair in this year’s election. Sinclair held the position since 2019, appointed as a replacement for outgoing board member Oliver Kunkel Jr. Williamson Urbis currently calls El Campo home after retiring from nearly four decades of teaching music. Holding a doctorate degree in Music Education from The University of Arizona and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Clarinet Performance, Communications and History) from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Williamson Urbis began her studies at WCJC. She spent 20 years teaching at the University of Texas at Brownsville (now the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), serving as Chair of the Music, Art and Architecture Departments. Her career also includes working for several school districts in the capacity of band director and choir director. Her husband, pictured at right, is concert pianist and composer Professor Richard Urbis.
