WHARTON, TEXAS – For the first time ever, Wharton County Junior College will offer an on-campus medical clinic for the benefit of students, employees and their dependents.
Scheduled to open on Jan. 13, 2020, the Mid Coast Campus Care-WCJC clinic will be located in Room 114B of the LaDieu Technology Center on the Wharton campus. The telephone number is 979-475-6300. Services are provided for WCJC employees, students and their dependents. The clinic will not be open to the general public.
El Campo Memorial Hospital (ECMH) will oversee the clinic’s operations and staffing.
“ECMH has a strong commitment to provide outstanding healthcare to the residents, organizations and employers of Wharton County,” said Anita Crisp, ECMH’s vice-president of physician services. “With this commitment, ECMH looked for opportunities to bring quality and efficient services directly to the doorstep of the students, faculty and staff.”
Crisp credited WCJC President Betty McCrohan and college staff with making the project a reality.
“ECMH is honored to have the privilege of partnering with WCJC to provide on-campus healthcare,” Crisp said. “We very much appreciate the support of President Betty McCrohan, Vice-President Bryce Kocian, and Director of Facilities Mike Feyen, as well as their staff. We are looking forward to being a part of the WCJC community.”
McCrohan said the partnership will allow WCJC to offer a much-needed service.
“We are pleased to be able to offer healthcare-related services to our employees and students right here on campus,” McCrohan said. “Although located in Wharton, we want to stress that the clinic can be utilized by students, employees and their dependents from all four campuses.”
The clinic covers basic healthcare-related issues like sore throats, fevers, allergies and chronic conditions, in addition to well woman exams. Staffing includes a Physician Assistant, a Nurse Practitioner and nursing staff. A photo identification card and an insurance card are needed for services.
“We can provide the same services as any primary care physician or clinic,” Crisp stressed. “And a physician is always available to the practitioners whenever consultation is needed.”
Patients can pay for the services either out-of-pocket or via insurance. The Mid Coast Campus Care-WCJC clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most other commercial insurance plans. Details regarding eligibility, cost, appointments, and providers can be found by visiting www.ecmh.org
