WCJC FOUNDATION GOLF CLASSIC - The WCJC Foundation hosts 7th annual golf tournament

The El Campo Country Club will be the location of the Wharton County Junior College Foundation’s 7th Annual Golf Classic, scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.

WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Foundation will host its 7th Annual Golf Classic this November for the benefit of student scholarships. Since 2017, the WCJC Foundation has awarded $144,000 in scholarships to area students to attend WCJC. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will support scholarships for 2020 high school graduates to attend the college.

Scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8 at the El Campo Country Club, the four-player scramble tournament will support the WCJC Foundation Scholarship Fund. The fund is operated by the WCJC Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation of volunteers that provides financial assistance for scholarships, programs and faculty development.

Foundation members include President Gordon Sorrel of El Campo, Vice President Suzanne Armour of Wharton and Treasurer Johnny Veselka of El Campo, as well as board members Melba Clapp of El Campo, WCJC Board of Trustees Chairman Danny Gertson of East Bernard, Landon McClain of Wharton, Gus Mullins of Boling, Vince Reina Jr. of Wharton, Lloyd Nelson of Louise, Dr. Stewart Morris of Houston and WCJC President Betty McCrohan.

“Gifts of any amount will help support our students in achieving their educational goals,” stated Zina Carter, WCJC director of marketing, communications and advancement. “We encourage everyone to give at a level they are comfortable with knowing that their gift collectively combined with others will help us to reach the Foundation’s goal of providing scholarships for students to attend WCJC.”

The tournament will kick off at 8 a.m., with a 7 a.m. registration. Lunch will be provided and awards will be issued to the top three teams, as well as to the winners of the longest drive and closest to the pin contests.

Entry fee for the tournament is $300 per four-person team, or $75 per individual, which includes a golf cart, green fees and lunch. The entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 25.

Sponsorships are available for the tournament in several categories ranging from the $200 Friend of WCJC Foundation Sponsor to the $5,000 Platinum Sponsor.
