WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College band will open its Fall 2024 season with favorite tunes from classic Disney movies. The “Swingin’ with Disney” concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The show is free and open to the public.
“We will perform songs from various Disney productions,” said WCJC Band Director Joe Waldro. “Everybody likes some aspect of Disney.”
Selections will be taken from hit movies like Moana, The Incredibles, the Jungle Book and Tarzan. Waldrop said band members are working hard to get the songs ready for the concert.
It has been an eye-opening experience for the young musicians.
“I wanted them to hear some of their favorite Disney songs done in a different style,” Waldrop said. The most challenging thing about this concert is trying to get the students to play what is written instead of what they have grown up hearing.”
