WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizens Program will host a barbecue dinner fundraiser this month to benefit the area’s senior citizens.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the WCJC LaDieu Technology Center (911 Boling Highway) in Wharton. Barbecue on a bun plates are $10 each, and will be available drive-through only. Meals are catered by Mikeska’s Barbecue & Catering of El Campo. Call 979-532-6430 for tickets.
Senior Citizens Program Director Kimberly Willis said proceeds from both events will help the program continue to offer much-needed services.
“Too many senior citizens in Texas are left behind, alone and hungry, struggling to stay independent and healthy,” Willis said.
The program is funded through a combination of federal funds, local donations and fundraisers. Its mission is to provide cost-free services for program participants.
The program’s headquarters are in Wharton at the WCJC LaDieu Technology Center, with additional locations in Columbus, Weimar, Eagle Lake and El Campo.
“Contributions to these fundraisers will ensure that our precious senior citizens are served meals and provided with opportunities for a better quality of life,” Willis said.
