Engineering Design

W.C.J.C. continually strives to provide students with solid technical drafting skills and the knowledge of the most current CAD software programs used in the industry today. Some of the drawing programs used in the classroom are the current release of AutoDesk AutoCAD, Inventor, Civil 3D, and Revit, MicroStation V8i, Solid Works, and ESRI (mapping).

After successfully completing the two-year program, students receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Engineering Design and are ready to enter the job market with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to attain employment in the diverse and highly competitive field of industrial design.

Graduates who are employed by large corporations, become part of a design task force, specializing in a specific design discipline such as architectural design, civil/structural design, electrical design, mechanical design or piping design. After attaining valuable on the job experience, a significant number of our graduates have been promoted into supervisory and management positions. In small to medium size companies, designers typically are involved in several disciplines and have overlapping job descriptions. Whether employed by a large, medium or small size company, the skills acquired at Wharton County Junior College will provide the graduate with the essential knowledge for an entry-level designer position
