WHARTON, TEXAS – Registration is under way for Wharton County Junior College’s Fall 2020 semester, and several course options are being offered to meet each student’s particular needs.
This fall, students enrolling at WCJC will be able to choose from courses that are in-person, fully online, or a hybrid of both. Such options will allow students to choose what best fits their learning style and their schedule in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want our students to be able to pursue their educational goals in a manner that suits their individual needs while alleviating their concerns over the virus,” said WCJC President Betty McCrohan. “By offering a variety of course types, WCJC is providing the flexibility to fit just about any schedule.”
Registration for the Fall 2020 semester will continue until Aug. 30, with courses beginning on Aug. 31.
In addition to the flexible course styles, WCJC is offering additional assistance to help students continue their educational pursuits. Through a tuition installment plan, students will pay only 20 percent of their tuition and fees up front, plus a $35 non-refundable enrollment fee, and then spread out the remainder of their tuition in equal monthly installments.
For students who do not have access to a computer or regular internet service, the college is operating a computer lab. Reservations are required and may be made by visiting the college’s website. WCJC is also waiving fees and tuition for students who take more than 13 credit hours. Under this policy, students will not be charged for tuition and fees for any courses above the 13 credit hours provided these courses are academic program courses and not vocational program courses.
Safety measures have been put into place for the Fall 2020 semester to ensure student health and safety. These include the requirement of face coverings at all times on campus (except in private offices), the institution of social distancing guidelines in classrooms and facilities, and the installation of hand sanitizer stations. In addition, college facilities will remain closed to the general public, open only to students who have registered for in-person classes or have made an appointment.
Fall athletics programs have also been rescheduled for Spring 2021, following the guidelines of the National Junior College Athletic Association. WCJC’s volleyball and baseball teams will practice in the fall but will not scrimmage or play competitively until the spring. Decisions regarding the WCJC rodeo team, which operates under the auspices of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, will be determined at a later date.
