What is the Free College Initiative?
The initiative offers scholarships for full tuition and fees to qualified students majoring in certain healthcare profession programs at WCJC for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.
How to Qualify
➜ Students must reside in any of these counties: Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio, Victoria, Waller, Wharton, or the Needville Independent School District
➜ Be enrolled in at least six semester credit hoursin the Licensed Vocational Nursing, Health Information Technology, Emergency Medical Services, or Human Services programs at WCJC
➜ Have a 2023-2024 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file with WCJC
What does the Scholarship Include?
Scholarships will cover in-district or out-of-district student tuition, standard student fees, and the program specific fees listed below:
- Technology fees;
- Program testing fees;
- Program insurance fees;
- Background check fees;
- Practicum fees; and
- Lab fees
The program will not cover installment plan, parking, final registration, returned-check, non-program testing, or change-of-schedule fees.

Students don't have to complete a separate application for this scholarship! Not only does it pay for qualified students tuition and fees, it also offers a seamless process for being considered. The scholarship will be applied to qualified student accounts 1-2 weeks after registration!
