The Associate of Applied Science program takes two years to complete and mixes coursework with practical experience. The curriculum includes an in-depth study of:
  • Software used in modern offices, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and QuickBooks 
  • Communication skills 
  • Systematizing information about transactions and activities into accounts and quantitative records
  • Paying and receiving money
  • Generally accepted office procedures

Certificates in Business Office Technology

We offer a Level I and Level II office technology certificates, in addition to occupational skills awards.  Within these certificates, you can focus in three areas.
Occupational Skills Award
This 9 semester credit award focuses on building skills in commonly used software applications and the basic knowledge for entry level jobs such as office clerk or other related positions.  All courses in this award apply to both the Level 1 and Level 2 certificates.
Level I Certificate
This provides an introduction to the field of business office technology. You will be qualified for an entry-level position as an office specialist, office clerk, receptionist, or other related role in just one semester.
Level I Certificate
This provides basic knowledge to perform human resource activities. These include payroll transactions, payroll tax compliance, and filing of all quarterly and yearly payroll tax reports. This program takes one year to complete.
Level II Certificate
This program provides fundamental knowledge in the field of business office technology. It builds on the knowledge gained in the Level I programs. It also provides a more in-depth study of accounting methods and software, word processing, and professional practices. TSI readiness is required. This program takes one year to complete.

Ms. Siewert started teaching accounting at WCJC in 2010. She has previously taught accounting at other institutions. Siewert has many years of experience working for corporations including Texaco/Shell Lubricants and KPMG Peat Marwick.
