Studying full-time, you can complete our physics degree in two years. As part of the program, you will take a variety of math and science courses, which will give you a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of STEM. The program will thoroughly prepare you with the skills and confidence needed for a smooth transition to a four-year university. Meet the Faculty

Rocio Doherty, PhD

Department Head, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering

Dr. Rocio Doherty earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Monterrey Tech in Mexico and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  She has worked in several companies in both Mexico and the U.S. She has worked as a senior chemist, lab manager, and process engineer in the polymers, cement and concrete, environmental, and oil and gas fields. Doherty has 17 years of college-level teaching and content development experience. She teaches general chemistry and organic chemistry.

Rafay Anwar, PhD

Physics Instructor
Dr. Rafay Anwar earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Houston. Before joining WCJC, Anwar taught at UT-Permian Basin as an assistant professor. He is currently teaching College Physics I/II and University Physics I/II. He has also taught Modern Physics, as well as Core Mathematics.

Xuan Wu, PhD

Physics and Engineering Instructor

Dr. Xuan Wu received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Lamar University.  She is currently teaching College Physics I/II, University Physics I/II, Introduction to Engineering, and Engineering Mechanics - Statics.

Levent Sakar

Physics Instructor
Mr. Sakar has been serving as curriculum director in a public school for 13 years. He has taught physics for more than 22 years at the secondary level, certified in Physics, Engineering, Technology, Math, and Science. In 2017, he was selected as a Distinguished Visitor of USS Nimitz in the nation by the U.S. Navy for serving as a STEM Educator and actively involving and promoting Navy STEM programs. He has been one of the liaisons of the Airborne Astronomy Ambassador (AAA) program of NASA. At WCJC, he teaches College Physics I.
