Dr. Willis received her B.A. in Chemistry from University of Maryland Baltimore County and her PH.D. in Chemistry from Louisiana State University.  She has 8 years of college level teaching experience.  She has worked as a Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Virginia and was a chemistry lab supervisor for the Public Health Lab in Washington, D.C.  She teaches Introductory and General Chemistry at the Wharton and Bay City campuses.


John Bankston

Mr. Bankston received his B.S. degree from the University of Houston.  He received his M.S. degree from the University of Washington.  Mr. Bankston has been an instructor for Wharton County Junior College since 2002, where he has instructed general chemistry as well as organic chemistry.

Dr. Camejo received his BS in Chemistry from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2005 and his PhD from Baylor University in 2015.  He started working for WCJC in 2016 and teaches freshman chemistry, primarily at the Sugar Land campus.

 Dr. Derrickson joined WCJC in Fall 2016.  He completed his B.S. and Ph.D. studies at the University of Houston and then spent 8 years in industry including working in the oil and gas and aerospace industries.  He teaches Introductory and Freshman Chemistry along with the associated lab courses.

Ms. Lippolis received her B.S. degree in Chemistry with minors in Biology and
Mathematics from Dowling College (Oakdale, NY) and received and Masters’
degree in Biochemistry from CUNY Queens College (Flushing, NY). She worked
in industry for 5 years and has been teaching at the collegiate level
since 2009. She teaches Introductory Chemistry and General Chemistry at the Sugar Land campus.

Mrs. Nwosu received her B.S. degree in Industrial Chemistry from FUTO Nigeria, her M.S. degree in Chemistry from Prairie View A&M University, and a Graduate Certificate in Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center. She joined the WCJC chemistry faculty in 2013.  She currently teaches Introductory and General Chemistry at the Sugar Land and Richmond campuses.

Mrs. Whitley received a B.S. in chemistry from Sam Houston State University and M.S. in chemistry from University of California at Riverside.  She has more than 15 years of community college teaching experience.  She teaches introductory and general chemistry at the Wharton and Sugar Land campuses.

Dr. Zhao joined the full-time WCJC chemistry faculty in January 2014.  He completed his Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2000.  He teaches introductory, general and organic chemistry classes at Sugar Land and FBTC campuses.



Rocio Doherty

Dr. Doherty holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Monterrey Tech, in Mexico, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of San Luis Potosi, in Mexico. She has worked in several companies in both Mexico and the U.S. as Senior Chemist, Lab Manager, and Process Engineer in the polymers, cement and concrete, environmental, and oil and gas fields. She has 17 years of college-level teaching and content development experience. She teaches General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at the Sugar Land campus.


Silvano Grosso

Mr. Grosso holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry and worked as a Sr. Research Chemist for Dow Chemical USA, in both Midland, MI and Freeport, TX.  He also has international experience with several large corporations such as Dow Chemical, Hoechst, and Nalco.  He is a native of Rome, Italy and speaks multiple languages.  Since 2006, he has been a part-time instructor of chemistry and math tutor at WCJC.




Diana Sepulveda

Dr. Sepulveda received her BS in Chemistry from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in 2006 and her PhD from Texas A&M University in 2014.  She works as an industrial chemist in the oil and gas industry.  Dr. Sepulveda teaches freshman chemistry, primarily at the Sugar Land campus.


Shuangyan (Susan) Wang

Dr. Wang received her Ph. D. in chemistry from University of Houston, M. S. and B. S. in chemistry from Peking University, Beijing, China. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois. She also worked as a research scientist at University of Houston. Her research was primarily in energy and materials fields. She has 12 peer-reviewed papers in leading scientific journals, 3 issued U.S. and Europe patents, and 22 national and international conference presentations. Dr. Wang teaches general chemistry at the Richmond and Sugar Land campuses.


Christopher Anukwuem

Dr. Anukwuem joined the WCJC Chemistry department as a part-time instructor in the spring of 2015.  He has a M.S. in Analytical/Organic Chemistry and Ed.D. in Higher Education from Texas Southern University.  Dr. Anukwuem teaches Introductory, General and Organic Chemistry at WCJC, Sugar Land campus


Frank Carey

Mr. Carey received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from the University of North Texas (Denton).  He has more than ten years of experience in college teaching and more than 25 years corporate industry management experience.  He has supervised over 100 professional engineers, chemists, and technicians.  He was responsible for product development, technical service, quality assurance, and project management for several large and small companies including Dow Chemical, Raytheon (Amana), and Goldschmidt Chemical (now Degussa).  He served on national industry-government consortium committees (CFC abatement) and presented papers at numerous international technical marketing conferences on polyurethane foam technology.

At WCJC, Mr. Carey has been a full-time instructor of chemistry since 2001 and teaches freshman chemistry and organic chemistry classes.

Mr. Collins joined the chemistry faculty in 2011 after completing his M.S. at Texas A&M University in 2010.  He teaches freshman chemistry lecture and lab courses at WCJC.


Emmanuel Ewane

Dr. Ewane re-joined the WCJC chemistry faculty as a part-time Instructor in June 2011.  He has a Ph.D. in environmental chemistry from Texas Southern University.  He teaches freshman and organic chemistry classes primarily at the Sugar Land campus.


Thomas David Griffith

Dr. Griffith earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1977.  He has been teaching at WCJC since January 2012.
