Ms. Yancey graduated from University of Texas School of Nursing in Houston, Texas in December 1975. From 1976 to 1980 Ms. Yancey worked as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse at the Texas Medical Center. In 1980 Ms Yancey’s focus moved from pediatrics to adult critical care and nursing management. While serving as Director of Nursing in a rural facility, Ms. Yancey earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas School of Nursing in Austin, Texas. Ms. Yancey began her teaching career at Wharton County Junior College in the Associate Degree Nursing Program in 1998. She assumed the Director position in January, 2009.

Natasha Goins received her Master's degree in Nursing Education from Texas Woman's University, Houston, Texas in December 2011. She began her nursing career in Medical-Surgical Nursing in 1999 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She has worked in various areas like Orthopedic/Trauma at MHH-TMC and Neurology Rehab Oncology at MD Anderson. Natasha has taught Med-Surg Nursing at Sowela Technical Community College in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She started part-time at Wharton County Junior College in the Associate Degree of Nursing program in the Med-Surg I skills lab. Currently she works full-time at Wharton County Junior College as a Pharmacology instructor and clinical instructor in Med-Surg II. She still works as a staff nurse in Post-partum, Medical Telemetry and Physical Rehab areas.


Tammy Hann, MSN, RN

Mrs. Hann received her Vocational Nursing Certificate from Wharton County Junior College in 1986. After working in various areas in rural Texas facilities for 12 years, she obtained her Associate Degree in Nursing from Reagents College (member of The University of the State of New York) in 1998. She continued working in rural Texas facilities and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 followed by her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2012 through Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona. Her work experiences include Medical Surgical Nursing, hospital based Skilled Nursing Facilities and Rehabilitation Units, Geriatric-Psych Unit, Long Term Care Facilities as a Staff Nurse and Director of Nurses, Outpatient Clinic Internal Medicine Department Staff Nurse, Home Health Visiting Nurse as well as Case Manager and Staff Supervisor, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Operating Room Nurse in the capacity of a Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse. She joined Wharton County Junior College as a full time instructor for the Associate Degree Nursing Program in January 2013.

Charlet Jose received her Master's degree in Nursing Education from Phoenix University in March 2011. She began her nursing career as a registered nurse in 1984 in Armed Forces Medical College, India. She has almost 29 years clinical experience in various clinical areas, which include Med-Surg & telemetry unit, heart and vascular institute, Ortho, Stroke unit, Oncology, Hematology, Bariatric, Gerontology, neurosurgery, and Operating Room in 3 different countries. In United States she started working in 2006 at Wuesthoff Health System for 2 years, then in Memorial Hermann Health System, Texas Medical Center and currently working part time in Oncology unit in this same hospital as Oncology Certified Nurse. Charlet has taught Med-Surg Nursing in India for 2 years. In United States she began her nursing faculty career as adjunct faculty for ADN program at Coleman College, Houston Community College in August 2011. Currently she is working on her PhD program in Nursing Education. She has started working at Wharton County Junior College in September 2013 as ADN instructor and clinical instructor in Med-Surg.

Patricia Korenek, MS, RN, WHNP

Ms. Korenek received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She began her nursing career at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. Initially starting in Medical Surgical nursing at GCMC she was encouraged to start the first Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit. Later she was directed back toward her primary nursing interest and became the Obstetrics Director. She received her certification in Inpatient Obstetrics. She left hospital nursing and worked in Public Health as a clinic director for the Texas Department of Health PHR 6. It was during this time that she received her certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. She worked as a WHCNP in a newly formed Rural Health Clinic of GCMC for five years. She received her Master of Science from Texas Woman’s University in Houston. Ms. Korenek for the last 15 years has worked in local, private, and the UTMB clinic systems. She also served as Director of Nurses at El Campo Memorial Hospital. Ms. Korenek is a fulltime instructor for WCJC and is focusing on Fundamentals of Nursing.


Amy Pendergraft, MSN, RN

Mrs. Pendergraft obtained her BSN from UTMB in 1996. After working several years as an ICU nurse in both adult and pediatrics, she completed her MSN at TWU-Houston as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2000. In addition to family practice, she has taught in BSN and ADN nursing programs and practiced in home health and hospice nursing. In October of 2012, Mrs. Pendergraft joined the WCJC faculty as an instructor in the ADN program.


Mariakutty Samuel, MSN, RN

Ms. Samuel received her Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Punjab, India in 1972. She worked at that hospital for two years in medical unit, surgical unit and operating room. Since 1974, she has worked as a nurse at various hospitals in The United States including a Psychiatric Hospital in New York, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Veterans Administrations Hospital in Baltimore, Veterans Administrations Hospital and Del Oro Hospital in Houston. During this time she obtained special certifications and degrees including Certifications in Critical Care and Medical Surgical Nursing, Pre-requisite courses from Houston Community College, BSN (1992) and MSN (1994) from the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. Majority of her nursing experience is in Critical Care Nursing and her MSN focused in Critical Care Nursing with an Education and Clinical Nurse Specialist Role. She taught at WCJC as a part time Clinical Instructor for a year before becoming a full-time faculty member in 1995. She has taught theory, lab and clinical in LVN-RN transition program, Fundamentals, Maternal and Child Health, Mental Health, Medical/Surgical and Critical Care Nursing.

Ms. Smith graduated with a BSN from the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, a MS from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, and a certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Ms, Smith has taught at several levels of nurse education including Vocational Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, and Bachelor Degree Nursing and at various colleges and universities in Texas and Arkansas. She maintains professional membership in Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Theta Tau, and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Honor’s received while teaching include Weatherford College Faculty Member of the Year, Gayle & Wanda Grant Teaching Excellence Award, and The Jack Harvey Teaching Excellence Award.

Ms. Wall graduated from Rutgers University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She practice nursing for seven years and earned a Masters of Arts degree in Nursing Education at New York University in 1989. She taught in hospital based inservice education for nine years. Ms. Wall has been full time faculty at WCJC since 2005. During this time she has taught Foundations in Nursing, Nursing Skills and Clinical Nursing for Level 1 and Level 2 Freshmen.
