WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College students will take the stage and share their musical talent during the upcoming “Fall Showcase.”

Presented by the WCJC Office of Student Services and organized by men’s residence hall supervisor Alex Gardner, the show will feature independent musical acts comprised of current or former WCJC students. Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Pioneer Student Center on the Wharton campus, the event is free of admission to students and staff while the general public is asked to make a $2 donation or bring two canned goods. Proceeds benefit Wharton’s Share program.

Gardner has been supervising similar shows each year as a way to draw attention to student talent.

“The showcase is a way to highlight the students’ musical talents while providing a means for them to express themselves artistically,” Gardner said. “The goal of our student activities is to provide events that promote a positive social environment here at WCJC.”

The “Fall Showcase” will feature performances by From Here on Out, Fail Mary and kenosis.wav, all of which are comprised of former or current WCJC students.

From Here on Out is led by Frank Canales and Christian McLain, both of El Campo, who characterize their group as “nothing more than just a couple of close friends separating themselves from the real world” by playing music.

Fail Mary is an indie rock duo based in Wharton and consisting of Ganado-based drummer Chris Glass and singer/guitarist Connor D. Jones of Ganado. The band formed in 2014 and has since released a six-track demo followed by an EP entitled, “Showcase Your Sorrow.”

Kenosis.wav is a rap act created by former WCJC student John Martinez. The Wharton native recently released a full-length LP, “King Wavy” and has toured extensively across the country.

WCJC’s “Fall Showcase” is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Pioneer Student Center on the Wharton campus. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the first band set to take the stage 30 minutes later. For more information, contact Gardner at gardneral@wcjc.edu
