WHARTON, TEXAS – If you’re looking for a raucous good time, the Wharton County Junior College Drama Department has got you covered.

The department’s upcoming show, “Moon Over Buffalo” – scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 26-28 at the Horton Foote Theatre on the Wharton campus – is high on both energy and laughs.

“This is a fun, fast-paced show,” said Drama Instructor Jami Hughes. “There is a lot of physical comedy.”

Centering on a pair of married actors who have never broken into the big time, the story details the hilarious folly that ensues when the couple learns that famed film director Frank Capra is planning on seeing one of their plays at their local theater in Buffalo, N.Y.

“They freak out in excitement and mayhem ensues,” Hughes said.

The production, written by Ken Ludwig, includes mistaken identity, slapstick, situational comedy and split-second timing of one-liners and inside jokes, many of which refer to other productions.

“There are a lot of theater references in the show and that broadens the students’ exposure,” Hughes said.

Hughes also allowed the students to design the stage and set in an effort to provide more learning opportunities beyond the typical character roles. About half of her students returned from last year, with the rest brand new to the program.

Cast and Crew for “Moon Over Buffalo” include Trace Morris of Needville, Maren Ellis of Wharton, Cole A. Fitzgerald of Bay City, Jazmin Cordova of El Campo, Makayla Biskup of El Campo, Alexis Flores of El Campo, Miguel Mirelez of Bay City, Nick Simons of Bay City, Isaac Cox of Beasley, Kenneth Isabor of Richmond, Tyler Korff of Markham, Victoria Posa of Houston, Sofia Uribe of Rosenberg, Malyssa Cadriel of El Campo, Maddie Wright of Edna, Jordon Gutierrez of Sugar Land, Kaylin Meek of Hungerford, Holly Self of Richmond, Sarah Pinyon of Sugar Land, Cristian Gutierrez of San Antonio and Jackson Rogers of Boston, Mass.

Wharton County Junior College Drama Department will present “Moon Over Buffalo” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, through Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The show is open to the public and free of admission.
