Office of Institutional Effectiveness

The goal of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness is to ensure that WCJC meets its strategic goals. We do this through analyses of data and creating a culture of continuous improvement. In addition, our office provides oversight of all assessment and compliance processes to continually monitor the efficacy of the institution at all levels.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness monitors and helps maintain compliance with all Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) standards on Institutional Effectiveness and Student Achievement.

SACSCOC Section 7: Institutional Planning and Effectiveness

  1. The institution engages in ongoing, comprehensive, and integrated research-based planning and evaluation processes that (a) focus on institutional quality and effectiveness and (b) incorporate a systematic review of institutional goals and outcomes consistent with its mission.
  2. The institution has a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that (a) has a topic identified through its ongoing, comprehensive planning and evaluation process; (b) has broad-based support of institutional constituencies; (c) focuses on improving specific student learning outcomes and/or student success; (d) commits resources to initiate, implement and complete the QEP; and (e) includes a plan to assess achievement.
  3. The institution identifies the expected outcomes of its administrative support services and demonstrates the extent to which the outcomes are achieved.

SACSCOC Section 8: Student Achievement

  1. The institution identifies, evaluates, and publishes goals and outcomes for student achievement appropriate to the institution's mission, the nature of the students it serves, and the kinds of programs offered. The institution uses multiple measures to document student success.
  2. The institution identifies expected outcomes, assesses the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provides evidence of seeking improvement based on analysis of the results in the areas below:
      • Student learning outcomes for each of its educational programs
      • Student learning outcomes for collegiate-level general education competencies of its undergraduate degree programs
      • Academic and student services that support student success

WCJC Fact Book
The WCJC Fact Book is updated annually and published before each academic year. It’s an overview of key institutional data from all sectors, including enrollment, programs, student success, finance, and facilities.

All administrative, student service, and academic support units engage in active planning and assessment practices that, while aligning with the WCJC goals, provide a clear roadmap for operational advancements specific to that division. In addition, WCJC instructional units assess student knowledge and skill mastery, both on the state-mandated General Education Competencies, as well as for their programmatic student learning outcomes.. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides oversight for the continual monitoring and reporting of all goals and outcomes across the institution.

Institutional Research

The Office of Institutional Research submits required reports to state and federal agencies, conducts studies on issues of significance to the WCJC community, and provides support for documenting institutional effectiveness in academic departments and administrative support units.
